I accept that the hotel trade has suffered, but this is not the way to win customer's back. We are determined in future to avoid staying at any hotel that charges such an "extra" fee, it just leaves you with an overall negative feeling of the hotel. They say that all the local hotels now make such a charge, so they do this as well! We stayed at the Westin Spa and Resort in Whistler BC just two weekends previously and there was no such charge. Considering that they did NOT service our room at all during our three day stay (!!) and we did not use the gym or pool, this is absolutely not justified and left us feeling "ripped off". When challenged they say that this is actually an "Amenity Fee" covering a voucher for breakfast of $15 to eat in the Bistro, the "free" bottle of water for the room, WiFi and the use of the gym and pool (not sure there is one). Our biggest issue was that they charged a "Resort Fee" of $30 per day. The bistro restaurant for the hotel is small and the food limited in both choice and quality. On the negative side, the area in which the hotel is situated, despite being one block from Pioneer Square, is now very rundown and dirty, with lots of shops empty and many unfortunate homeless people sleeping in doorways. They also have (one) electric vehicle charging point, though charge $55 a night to park (necessary in the case of the hotel's location). On the plus side this is a boutique hotel (ex Westin), in good condition.
